River Hawks Set to Face Cornell in Midweek Matchup

LOWELL, Mass. – Fresh off the holiday break, the UMass Lowell women's basketball team (2-3, 0-0 AE) will head to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on the Cornell Big Red (4-3, 0-0 IVY) on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Newman Arena at Bartels Hall.
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter Wednesday after taking down Central Connecticut 70-63 on November 24 at the Costello Center. Junior Shamyjha Price (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a career-high 20 points to lead UMass Lowell to a thrilling victory. Price knocked down a three with 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the River Hawks the lead before free throws sealed the win. Denise Solis (Windsor, Conn.) added 12 points, shooting 6-10, and picked up six boards.
 
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red welcome the River Hawks following back-to-back wins against UAlbany (47-46) and Lafayette College (66-55). Cornell has two players averaging double-digit points per game this season, Theresa Grace Mbanefo (12.9) and Olivia Snyder (10.3). Mbanefo also leads the team in blocks (15) and rebounds per game (8.6). Shannon Mulroy has a team-high 23 assists on the year, averaging 1.4 per game.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would be a second straight victory for the River Hawks and their first win over Cornell in four meetings.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
Wednesday's matchup will be the fourth meeting between the River Hawks and Big Red. Cornell holds a 3-0 record all-time in the series. The last time these teams met came on November 27, 2019, where Cornell came away with a 70-56 win. Denise Solis led the team with 14 points, while  junior Jaliena Sanchez (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points and six assists. JuniorShamyjha Price picked up 11 points and added a team-high four steals in the loss.

The River Hawks hit the road once again to take on Massachusetts on December 5 at the Mullins Center.
