River Hawks Take on Northeastern in Weekend Tilt

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (1-2, 0-0 AE) will travel to Boston, Massachusetts to take on the Northeastern Huskies (2-1, 0-0 CAA) on Saturday, November 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Cabot Center.
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter Saturday after falling to No. 13 Michigan on Tuesday night. Junior Jaliena Sanchez led the River Hawks with nine points and four assists. Sanchez surpassed 500 career points after Saturday's game, the second River Hawk to reach the milestone this season (Solis vs. Bryant). Fellow junior Laura Vaida made her first start of the season, picking up six points, four rebounds, and one assist.
 
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
The Huskies enter Saturday's contest after beating the University of New Hampshire Wildcats 78-52 on November 17. Kendall Currence leads the team with 38 points, averaging 12.7 points per game. Three other Huskies are averaging at least 10 points a game. As a team, Northeastern has outrebounded their opponents 105-95 through three games this season.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would be the second all-time victory against Northeastern. The River Hawks would improve to 2-2 on the season and win their first road game of the season.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Huskies have met just once before Saturday, with UMass Lowell coming out on top with a 69-59 victory on December 16, 2020. Senior Kharis Idom and junior Denise Solis each scored 13 points. Idom added seven rebounds, while Solis grabbed six boards. Jaliena Sanchez and junior Kaylen Banwareesingh each scored 12 points in the win.
 
UP NEXT
UMass Lowell will return home for a matchup with Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday, November 23. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center.
