LOWELL, Mass. – Twenty-seven members of the UMass Lowell Hockey team have been named to the 2019-20 Hockey East All-Academic Team, which was announced Tuesday morning by the conference office.

UMass Lowell had the largest number of players honored by the eleven school conference for the second straight season.

"The 2019-20 team continued to elevate the academic standard for UMass Lowell Hockey," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "They excelled in both semesters and continue to set the bar for all teams across Hockey East. The coaching staff is extremely proud of this group as they continue to strive towards excellence on and off the ice."

The River Hawk hockey team also earned the university's Bob Griffin Academic Award with the highest grade point average, 3.93, among all River Hawk teams.

Two River Hawks, seniors Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) and Colin O'Neill (Odenton, Md.), made their fourth appearances on the All-Academic Team to earn Hockey East Distinguished Scholar status.

Logan Neaton (Brighton, Mich.), Nolan Sawchuk (Burnsville, Minn.) and Jordan Schulting (Penticton, B.C.) were named to Hockey East Academic All-Star Team for their efforts, along with Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.), Derek Osik (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Man.).  

The 26 student-athletes are part of a group of 160 student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during the past season.
