No. 12 River Hawks clinch home ice in 3-1 win vs. UConn in the regular season finale

Tyler Wall made 31 saves for the River Hawks in his 18th win of the season

LOWELL, Mass. --
Senior goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) notched 31 saves for the No. 12 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team in the 3-1 victory against UConn in the regular-season finale on Friday night at the Tsongas Center on Senior Night.

The River Hawks improve to 18-10-6 overall (12-7-5 HEA) and clinch home ice with the No. 3 seed for the Hockey East quarterfinal round beginning next weekend at the Tsongas Center. UConn drops to 15-15-4 overall (12-10-2 HEA) with the loss. 

"This is a very difficult league, we beat a very good opponent tonight, we got one more than they did," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "Obviously you are pleased to get home ice and we will wait to see who our next opponent is."

Sophomore blueliner Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) added an empty netter ith 48 seconds left in regulation to seal the win for the River Hawks. 

UConn added a power play goal in third on a power play goal by Kale Howarth to cut the River Hawks lead to 2-1 at 7:54 in the third frame. 

UMass Lowell's Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.) scored his third goal in the last three games to give UMass Lowell a 2-0 lead at 11:27 in the second on the man advantage. 

Freshman forward Andre Lee (Karlstad, Sweden) scored his eighth tally of the year via the power play just 6:07 into the game to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead in the game. 

Wall stopped 13 shots in the opening stanza and made 10 saves in the second period in his 18th win of the season in his 99th career start, while Tomas Vomacka stopped 23 shots in the losing effort for the Huskies.

Senior forward Colin O'Neill (Odenton, Md.) notched a team-high four shots on goal for the River Hawks, while junior forward Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) amassed a game-high 11 face-off wins for UMass Lowell.

The River Hawks will face either UConn or Boston University in the quarterfinals beginning on Friday, March 13th. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15pm. The game will be streamed nationally and internationally via CBS All-Access.
