Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 11 River Hawks blanked by No. 12 Northeastern, 3-0

Tyler Wall stopped 19 shots in the losing effort vs. the Huskies

LOWELL, Mass. -- The No. 11 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team fell to Northeastern, 3-0 on Friday night in Hockey East play at the Tsongas Center.

The River Hawks fall to 15-8-5 overall (9-5-4 HEA), while Northeastern improves to 16-8-3 overall (9-7-1 HEA) with the victory.

"It's just not good enough at home to play less than 60 minutes," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "That's what I was disappointed with, I thought we had more in us to give, but when start off killing three or four penalties in the first period, it's a tough road. We were chasing the game."

NU added a late insurance goal by Grant Jozefek with an empty netter with one second remaining to seal the with for the Huskies.

Ryan Shea extended the Huskies' lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second period off a feed from Neil Shea.

Northeastern struck first in the game with a power play goal by Tyler Madden just 6:54 into the opening stanza for his 19th marker of the year.

Senior goalie Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) registered 19 saves in the loss, while NU's Craig Patano amassed 24 saves in his 16th victory of the season.

UMass Lowell won 33 of 52 face-offs on the night, including nine face-off wins by Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ont.) and seven victories from senior forward Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska). Hausinger tallied a team-best four shots on goal in the losing effort for the River Hawks.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, February 15th at Northeastern. Game time from Matthews Arena is 8 p.m. The game will be televised regionally on NESNplus and will be streamed nationally and internationally on CBS All-Access.
