Box Score
BOSTON – The No. 11 UMass Lowell Hockey team fell at No. 12 Northeastern, 2-1 on Saturday night at Matthews Arena in Hockey East play.
The River Hawks fall to 15-9-5 overall (9-6-4 HEA), while Northeastern improved to 17-8-3 overall (10-7-1 HEA).

"I would like to congratulate our opponent, they took two tight games this weekend and tonight stung," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "This was a tough one for us, I thought we started the way we wanted to start and couldn't quite get the second one in the first period, which would have helped. Their goalie stood tall and I thought our goaltending was excellent also."

Northeastern's Matt Demelis scored to give the Huskies their first lead of the game with 10:34 to go in the third period for his seventh goal of the season as the puck took a few awkward bounces and found the back of the net.

Mike Kesselring tied the game at 1-1 with a blast from the left point for his second career tally for the Huskies at 6:32 in the second stanza.

Sophomore forward Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Man.) opened the scoring in the game with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle that beat NU's Craig Patano five hole just six minutes into the first frame. Stefanson and Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) each registered a team-high five shots on goal for UMass Lowell.

The River Hawks outshot Northeastern, 14-4 in the opening period. UMass Lowell outshot NU, 31-20 for the game.

Senior goalie Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) stopped 18 shots in the loss, while his counterpart Patano notched 30 stops for the Huskies in his 17th win of the season.

The River Hawks had another very solid effort in the face-off circle, as they owned a 30-19 advantage. Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ont.) and Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) each totaled eight face-off victories.

UMass Lowell returns to action in Hockey East play on Friday, February 21st against Massachusetts in a pivotal game in the Kennedy Cup Challenge. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15pm. The game will be streamed nationally and internationally via CBS All-Access.
