BRIGHTON, Mass. – Sophomore
Maria Moccio (Feeding Hills, Mass.) registered her seventh home run of the season in a 5-2 setback for the UMass Lowell softball team (25-17) at ACC opponent Boston College (17-32) on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are going to learn from these past two games and work on some things, so we can prepare for this upcoming weekend," said Head Coach
Danielle Henderson.
Moccio accounted for the River Hawks' only RBI in the contest, while junior
Courtney Cashman chipped in with a hit of her own. Senior
Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) went the distance in the circle to take the decision.
The River Hawks put a pair of runners on in the top of the first, but it was the Eagles who scratched the first run across in the bottom of the inning thanks to a base hit down the right field line.
UMass Lowell drew two more walks in the second before Cashman registered the squad's first hit of the day with a single to left. Moccio then followed with a two-run blast over the wall in right to put the visitors on top, 2-1.
However, BC rallied for three runs on four hits, including two RBI triples in the fourth to pull back in front. The home team would stretch its lead further to 6-2 on a shot to left center by Gianna Randazza in the fifth. UMass Lowell then left one on in each of its final two at-bats, as Boston College sealed the outcome.
The Eagles now lead the all-time series against UMass Lowell, 4-3. The River Hawks will wrap up the regular season this weekend when they host America East foe UAlbany in a three-game series on Friday-Saturday, May 3-4.
