LOWELL, Mass. – Sophomore attackman
Harry Morrill (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored three goals to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 12-10 season opening victory against Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field Complex.
Senior
Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.) sealed the win for the River Hawks with four minutes left for his second tally of the game.
"I think every game we play is going to be a close game, everybody is good, it was a lot of fun," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "What a great atmosphere, the stands were packed, I was pleased, we started a real young defense and they made a lot of plays."
Quinnipiac came back in the fourth quarter with four goals, including two by Will Abbott. Matt Miller and Jake Tomsik each totaled three goals apiece for the Bobcats in the losing effort. Morill scored his third of the day just 1:30 into the fourth frame.
Sophomore Kyle LaForge (Tyngsboro, Mass.) opened the scoring in the second half at 11:53, followed by
Ryan Morrison's (Uxbridge, Ont.) second of the day and
Jake Lining's (Rochester, Mich.) tally to make it a 10-6 contest in favor of the home team.
UMass Lowell added four goals in the second stanza as Will Russo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Morrill, Morrison and Giachello tallied goals.

Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.),
Harry Morrill (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Morrison added goals in the second quarter to give the River Hawks a 7-4 lead at halftime.
Giachello opened the scoring on the season for the River Hawks just 11 seconds into the opening quarter. The River Hawks owned a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter as Highfield and Morrill added goals.
Sophomore
Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) stopped six shots in the season opening victory for the River Hawks, while QU's Nick DiMuccio totaled 17 saves in the loss for the Bobcats.
The River Hawks outshot Quinnipiac, 41-23 for the game, which included a 24-10 advantage in the first half of play. UMass Lowell forced 16 caused turnovers in the contest to Quinnipiac's nine.
Junior
Brett Dattilo (Derry, N.H.) won a team-high 10 face-offs for UMass Lowell.
The River Hawks continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday, February 19
