LOWELL, Mass. -- Despite holding an advantage in shots and opportunities, the UMass Lowell men's soccer fell 1-0 in its non-conference finale to Brown in a wet, rainy contest at Cushing Field on Wednesday night.
The River Hawks (7-6-1) outshot the Bears (3-8-3), 13-9, and had a pair of
Roko Prsa (Sisak, Croatia) attempts ring off the crossbar, but Matthew Chow snuck the game's lone score in the 71st minute to stun the hosts.Â
"It was a tough game with a lot of opportunities. We thought we dominated the game, but in reality only one team can win," said Assistant Coach
Abel Wasswa. "There were a lot of good things in there, but we have to find a way to get the result. These next games are very important and we have to make sure to do the things to string some wins together."
Prsa's first attempt off the woodwork came in the 19th minute from outside the box, and his freekick in the 50th minute connected on the crossbar on the opposite side of the field. The senior led UMass Lowell with three attempts in total, and
Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) had his point-blank attempt knocked aside in the 52nd.
Chow received a through ball from Paul Elliot, and after evading a pair of defenders slid the shot under an advancing
Zach Rowell (Haverhill, Mass.) to break the scoreless deadlock.
The River Hawks welcome Stony Brook to Cushing Field on Saturday for Senior Night. There will be a special pre-game ceremony for the program's five seniors.Â
