LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell athletic department hosted its Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, October 18th and debuted the inaugural class of Blue Blazer Society at a ceremony in the Moloney Ballroom at University Crossing.
The event, which was hosted by women's soccer alum Sarah Wroblewski ('05), had a sold-out crowd of 135 people in attendance. A total of 16 Hall of Fame members attended the event, which included 11 members receiving Blue Blazers. Men's Basketball alum Hank Brown ('67) was the first to receive a Blue Blazer, since he was part of the inaugural HOF induction class in 1977.
"It is an honor to be recognized for athletic contributions to our University," said Brown. "I believe supporting new Hall of Fame members by attending the Induction Ceremony illustrates the appreciation we all have in their accomplishments. It is also a great way to reconnect with prior Inductees. The Blue Blazer Society is an effective way to identify HOF members and emphasize support for, and pride in, the latest class."
The River Hawks inducted and celebrated the accomplishments four new members over the weekend, including Jamie Gillis (Women' Soccer), Toni-Marie (Henry) Monfort (Women's Track and Field), Stacey Moragne (Men's Basketball) and Pete Olsta (Baseball).
"The Hall of Fame event at UMass Lowell this past weekend was truly beyond words," said Gillis. "It was amazing to be able to share the moment with so many family and friends present. I enjoyed catching up and getting to know my fellow inductees. It was really special to be recognized by the school that I will be forever connected too."
Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner Julie Ruppert also recognized two current Hall of Fame members at the event in Nicole (Plante) Hunt and Jacqui Barrett (Women's Track and Field) for their recent induction into the NE-10 Hall of Fame for earning National Championships in their respective events.
