River Hawks earn 3-0 road shutout at Colgate

Connor Sodergren scores two goals and Christoffer Hernberg notches 25 saves in his seventh career shutout

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 3-0 victory at Colgate in non-conference play on Friday night at Class of 1965 Arena.

UMass Lowell improves to 10-8-1 overall, while the Raiders drop to 6-11-2 on the season. The River Hawks are now 8-3-0 in 11 games on the road this season and move above .500 in non-conference play with a 5-4-0 record.

"A real good result on the road, whenever you can get a team shutout and that's what it was tonight," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "I thought our defensemen did a nice job helping out at netfront and Hernie stood tall."

Sodergren added the empty-netter for his second goal of the night with 1:27 to play to seal the win for the River Hawks.

Junior forward Kenny Hausinger added his sixth of the season to extend the River Hawks lead to 2-0 on the power play with 11:19 to go in the second frame. The River Hawks outshot Colgate, 6-5 in the second period.

Sodergren scored his third goal of the season with 1:39 left in the first period to get the River Hawks on the board first in the contest. Colgate owned an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening frame.

Senior goalie Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) stopped 25 shots in his seventh career shutout for the River Hawks, which included 11 stops in the opening stanza and nine saves in the final frame. Colgate's Mitch Benson recorded 14 saves in the losing effort for the Raiders.

Senior forward Nick Master (Broomall, Pa.) won team-high nine of 15 face offs for UMass Lowell in the victory. Senior forward Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) totaled a game-high four shots on goal.

The River Hawks return to action at Colgate in the series finale on Saturday, Jan. 12th. Game time from Class of 1965 Arena is 7:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN+.
