No. 16 River Hawks Fall on Road at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – A short-sided No. 16 UMass Lowell men's soccer team fell 4-0 to Stony Brook in America East action on Friday night.

The Seawolves (5-3-1, 2-0-0) scored two goals in two minutes in the second half to snap their six-game losing streak against the River Hawks (6-3-2, 1-1-0).

UMass Lowell applied most of the pressure in the opening minutes, but saw the hosts take a 1-0 advantage in the 17th minute on a volley goal from Rondell Payne.

With less than five minutes to go in the first half, after the visitors were dropped to 10 men, Patrik Gujic (Zagreb, Croatia) made the first of his five saves to stop a penalty kick.

Stony Brook added scores in the 65th and 67th minutes to open up the contest and secure the program's first win against UMass Lowell since 1998.

The River Hawks wrap up their quick road swing with a matchup at UMBC on October 6 at 7 p.m.
