VESTAL, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell baseball team suffered a pair of conference losses to Binghamton this afternoon. The Bearcats took game one by a score of 5-1 and blanked the River Hawks, 3-0, in the second contest.
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) had the lone RBI for UMass Lowell (10-16, 3-5), and
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded three hits on the day.
GAME 1
The visitors had two men reach in the top of the first but could not take the early lead, and the Bearcats (8-15, 4-4) put up a pair in their first at bats.
Maiola's RBI came in the fourth on a groundout to cut into the deficit, but a double and a wild pitch gave the hosts two runs in the frame to build a 4-1 advantage.
After Binghamton made it 5-1 in the seventh, the River Hawks loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but could not do any damage.
Olive and
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) picked up a pair of base knocks in the contest.
GAME 2
A pair of RBI singles in the third and fifth innings were the difference as the Bearcats were able to take the doubleheader finale, 3-0.
The River Hawks had runners reach in five of seven innings, but could not make a dent in the scoreboard as they were limited to four hits.
The series finale is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
