Matt Balter (Albany, N.Y.) scored four goals and junior
Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) had a hat trick to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory at Providence on Tuesday afternoon at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
Lane scored his third of the day with five seconds left to seal the win for the River Hawks. after Providence tied the game at 11-11 on Josh Keller's fourth goal of the day with 2:03 left in the final quarter. Balter finished the day with a game-high five points after he scored a hat trick in the first half.
"I'm really proud of our guys today, we showed good toughness and poise, especially when Providence made a run," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "We've been on both ends of these one-goal games and that's a really talented team we played."
UMass Lowell improves to 2-3 overall on the season, while Providence drops to 3-3 overall with the loss. All five games that the River Hawks have played this season have been one-goal contests.
The River Hawks opened the game with the first four goals in the contest and owned a 9-1 lead with 6:17 left in the second quarter, but the Friars stormed back with eight goals in the second half to make it a game.

Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) recorded 12Â saves in his third career start and second career victory for UMass Lowell. PC's Tate Boyce managed 15 stops in the losing effort.Â
UMass Lowell outshot Providence, 18-5 in the opening quarter.Â
The River Hawks return to action at home on Saturday, March 10th vs. Manhattan. Game time from Cushing Field Complex is 1 p.m.Â
