HARRISONBURG, Va. – The UMass Lowell baseball team saw a 4-0 lead slip away, as James Madison came back to pickup a 5-4 victory in game one of the three-game series.
The Dukes' (11-7) erased the deficit for good in the seventh with a two-run single off the bat of Fox Semones.
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) drove in a pair for the River Hawks (6-9), and
Mark Tumosa (Willington, Conn.) was the only visitor with multiple hits.
For the fourth time in the last five games UMass Lowell scored in the first inning, this time giving starter
Jack Riley (Worcester, Mass.) a three-run lead before he threw a pitch.
The first two batters reached following a
Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J.) walk and a
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) single to put men on the corners. One batter later, Maiola delivered his triple to left center to drive in two.
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) capped off the frame with his 14th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to right.
The River Hawks took a 4-0 lead in the fourth by way of a Tumosa leadoff double and a Martin sacrifice fly.
JMU began its rally with a pair in the bottom of the frame with two, two-out bases-loaded singles to pull within 4-2. The Dukes added a lone run in the fifth to further close the gap.
Both teams will meet for game two tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
