CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UMass Lowell baseball team came within one strike of a no-hitter on the final day of the Shipyard Classic, as the River Hawks picked up another split in the final day of the Shipyard Classic.
UMass Lowell (2-2) knocked off Morehead State, 2-1, before falling, 4-3, in extra innings to Ball State.

Ken Harring used five pitchers and did not allow a hit until the final frame, as Adam connected on a RBI single for the Eagles. UMass Lowell pitching struck out nine Morehead batters and stranded 14 Eagles on the bases.
In game one, the River Hawks put up single runs in the fifth and seventh innings, and that was more than enough for the pitching staff. The

Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) led off with a walk and moved to second with a wild pitch. The next batter,
Austin Young (), didn't wait long as he sent a single into left to break the scoreless tie.
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) added the insurance run with a solo home run, his second homer in as many games.
Henry Funaro (Lowell, Mass.) struck out six in five shutout innings and earned his first career win in his collegiate debut
The nightcap saw UMass Lowell trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth, but
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) sent a double into left that scored
John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) to draw even. After two intentional walks to load the bases, Climo singled home Maiola for the third straight River Hawk run.
Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) got hit with the bases loaded to drive in the seventh after the Cardinals scored in the second and fifth innings.
Ball State sent the game into extras with a two-out single and took the game in the 10th with a two-out knock as well.
The River Hawks finished opening weekend 2-2 and will head to Nashville for a three-game set against No. 14 Vanderbilt next weekend.
