HAMDEN, Conn. --
Senior attackman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) tied a career-high with five points and four goals to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 13-12 overtime victory at Quinnipiac in the season opener on Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium.

Tyrell tied the game at 12-12 with 1:09 to go in the fourth quarter and senior Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) scored his second goal of the game with man up just eight seconds into the extra frame to give the River Hawks the victory.

"I thought our upperclassmen showed great poise throughout the game, especially in the fourth quarter and overtime," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Ed Stephenson. "We made a lot of mistakes in the first half and that's to be expected in our first game, but the boys tightened the ship in the second half."

UMass Lowell trailed 7-3 at halftime, but rallied to score nine goals in the third and fourth quarters. Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.), Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) and Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) also recorded multi-goal games for the River Hawks. Klingsporn notched a game-high eight shots, while senior Will Puduski (Westford, Mass.) led the way for UMass Lowell with seven ground balls and seven faceoff wins.

UMass Lowell outshot Quinnipiac, 22-11 in the third and fourth quarters of play.

Junior Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) stopped four shots in the first 30 minutes of play, while freshman Hunter Braun (Hartland, Mich.) played the final 30:08 and made two saves in the victory. Quinnipiac's Carson Cocco stopped 13 shots in the losing effort for the Bobcats.

Jake Tomsik also notched five points (4g,1a) to pace the Quinnipiac offense.

The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 17th at Harvard. Game time from Harvard Stadium in Boston is 3 p.m.
