BOSTON – The UMass Lowell Hockey team picked up a 5-3 road victory at Boston University on Friday night in Hockey East play at Agganis Arena.
UMass Lowell improved to 8-6-1 overall (4-3-1 HEA), while the Terriers fall to 4-8-2 overall (4-5-2 HEA).
"Overall, you have to be happy to get two points on the road against a very good team, it was a great start to the weekend," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin.
Sophomore forward
Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) tallied an empty netter with 23 seconds to go for his first marker of the season to seal the win for the River Hawks. Levesque posted a team-high four shots on goal for UMass Lowell.
Freshman defenseman
Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) added his first career tally to give UMass Lowell back the lead at 4-3 with 12:15 left in the third frame.
BU added a power play marker to make it 3-3 just 4:34 into the third frame on Bobo Carpenter's seventh goal of the season.
Cam Crotty cut the Terriers deficit to 3-2 just two minutes after Baxter's goal.
BU's Ty Amonte got the Terriers on the scoreboard in the second stanza, but
Anthony Baxter's (Oakville, Ont.) first career goal gave the River Hawks another two-goal lead at 3-1.
Sophomore forward
Chris Schutz (Keller, Texas) got the River Hawks on the scoreboard first in the game with a wrist shot with 13:23 to go in the opening stanza, which beat BU goalie Jake Oettinger top shelf. Sophomore forward
Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) extended UMass Lowell's lead to 2-0 just six minutes later with his second tally of the season.
Freshman forward
Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) added a career-high two assists in the win.
Senior goalie
Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) made his fifth start of the season, posting 34 saves in his third win of the year for the River Hawks. Hernberg notched 12 saves in each the first and third periods. Oettinger totaled 23 stops in the losing effort for the Terriers.
The River Hawks return to the ice in the series finale on Saturday, December 8
