ALBANY, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-1-0) fell to the UAlbany Great Danes (7-2-0, 1-0-0), 1-0, in the America East opener for both squads' on Saturday night.
The lone goal in the contest came in the 36th minute on a tally from the Great Danes' Daniel Krutzen, as he put home the rebound from a diving save by
Austin Kroll (Baltimored, Md.).
The River Hawks outshot the hosts, 4-3, in the opening frame but
Jakov Basic's (Zagreb, Croatia) long range blast in the 44th minute was the only attempt on target for the visitors.
UMass Lowell managed two shots on target in the second half, but could not find the equalizer, as the River Hawks fell in a conference opener for the first time since 2015.
Kroll recorded five saves on the night, while his counterpart Danny Vitiello made three stops.
The River Hawks return to Cushing Field for the first time since September 16, when they host Stony Brook in their America East home opener on October 7, at 7 p.m.
