LOWELL, Mass. – Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) notched the game-winning tally in the 72nd minute, as the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (5-4-1, 1-1-0) knocked off visiting Stony Brook (6-3-3, 0-1-1), 1-0, at Cushing Field on Saturday.
Abramovic sent a one-timed shot into the corner from four-yards out, as
Roko Prsa's (Zagreb, Croatia) pass split two defenders following
Duran Lee's (Brampton, Ontario) cross from the corner.
"I thought we had a good overall performance," commented Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "We had a long week off and were able to sort some things out after a long stretch. We played some quality opponents over the last two weeks, including Stony Brook tonight, but our guys came out with a lot of energy and were very focused."
The hosts had a chance to double the advantage in the 85th minute, as Lee saw his shot get by the keeper but cleared off the line by a defender.
UMass Lowell outshot the Seawolves, 15-7, but the River Hawks only registered two attempts on target, as they had four shots blocked away by the Stony Brook defense.
In net,
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) recorded three saves to pick up his 31st career win and 20th career blank sheet.
Lee and Abramovic led all shooters with four shots apiece, while
Dario Jovanovski (Zagreb, Croatia) added three of his own.
The River Hawks are back home to host UMBC on October 11 at 7 p.m.
