LOWELL, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) notched a match-high 15 kills to go along with nine digs to lead the UMass Lowell Volleyball team to a 3-0 victory against Bryant on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores 25-20, 26-24 and 25-17.

UMass Lowell improved its overall record to 5-9 overall with the win, while Bryant dropped to 11-8 overall after the loss.

"I am so proud of the team, Bryant is a very good team, they have played good opponents all year and have done well," said Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "So for us to come out against that team and play as hard as we did, we battled in the first two sets and it was really exciting to see how they played under that kind of pressure. I was really excited for them to come out in the third set and get a lead and they kept it."

Set one ended with a big block from Ariel Dulaney (Bay Minette, Ala.) and Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and the River Hawks held off a late surge by Bryant at the end of the second frame to take a 2-0 lead in the match. UMass Lowell totaled a match-high 16 kills in the second stanza against the Bulldogs.

The River Hawks came out in set three with a 7-0 lead to start the frame.

Junior Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) notched 17 assists apiece, running the River Hawks' offense. Mendez led the way with some strong serving, registering three of six UMass Lowell service aces. Dulaney also added five kills and four total blocks.

Junior co-captain Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled a match-high 19 digs, while senior defensive specialist Malorie McIver (Austin, Texas) added 16 digs on defense in the victory.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, September 29th at Binghamton in America East play. Match time from West Gymnasium in Vestal, N.Y. is 7 p.m.
