LOWELL, Mass. – The No. 25 UMass Lowell men's soccer team (3-1-1) played to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Quinnipiac (1-3-1) on Wednesday night.
"I thought it was a good effort from the guys, especially with the early goal" commented Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "I would liked to have some more opportunities and consistent pressure from that point, but Quinnipiac did a good job to battle back and earn the result."
The River Hawks recorded the only score in the opening 45 minutes on
Jakov Basic's (Zagreb, Croatia) blast from 30-yards out that froze the keeper before going into the upper right corner in the sixth minute.
Gui Rodrigues (Lowell, Mass.) extended the play from the corner and managed to send a pass to
Chase Reichenberg (Hamburg, Germany) who one-timed the ball to Basic, and after one move to sideswipe the defender, the junior let it rip.
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made the lone save of the half, using his toes to stop the shot from Quinnipiac's Eamon Whelan in the 14th minute.
Minutes after
Jannick Baumer (Emmedingen, Germany) had his attempt to extend the advantage, the Bobcats drew even on a tough angle shot from the corner by Derek Parker in the 61st minute.
In the 98th minute,
Richard Mulo (Kisumu, Kenya) came within inches of the winner but his header was knocked over the crossbar by Chrysostomos Iakovidis.
The River Hawks welcome the Monmouth Hawks to Cushing Field for a Saturday night matchup at 7 p.m.
