LOWELL, Mass. – The No. 14 UMass Lowell (2-0-0) men's soccer team used two first-half goals to blank Boston University (0-3-0) on Friday night in the River Hawks' home opener.
The hosts scored two first half goals in a span of two minutes to make a commanding 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the contest.
Redshirt-junior
Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) broke the scoreless draw in the 11th minute off a header in the box off a free kick from redshirt-senior
Guilherme Rodrigues (Lowell, Mass.).
Rodrigues picked up his second assist of the evening on a pass into the box that
Richard Mulo (Kisumu, Kenya) tapped in behind the keeper.
UMass Lowell outshot the Terriers, 5-2, in the opening 45 minutes. The River Hawks had three shots trickle just wide of the target.
Rodrigues set a career high with his pair of helpers, and has recorded at least two assists in three of his four seasons.
Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) made four saves to earn his 28th career win and 18th career shutout.
The River Hawks are back in action at Cushing Field on September 4 for a 7 p.m. kick off against Harvard.
