LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell baseball team (22-19) suffered a 6-1 setback to the Boston College Eagles (18-25) on Senior Night at LeLacheur Park on Tuesday night.

The Eagles scored the game's first run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Donovan Casey, following two singles to begin the frame.

In the sixth, Boston College extended its advantage to 3-0 in the sixth on a Jake Alu RBI single and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mitch Bigras. A wild pitch pitch on a strikeout with the bases loaded pushed the deficit to 4-0 in the seventh.

The River Hawks broke through in the ninth inning on a Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) RBI single to score Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.), after the sophomore began the frame reaching on an error.

UMass Lowell starter and senior Steve Xirinachs (San Diego, Calif.) struck out six batters over five innings, while senior Max Frawley (Billerica, Mass.) took his first career at bat to lead off the game.

David Hoar III (Peabody, Mass.) made the game's web gem in the ninth, catching a line drive close to his face and firing over to first to complete the double play.

The visitors' Jake Palomaki and Aaron Soucy each score two runs, while Strem drove in a pair.

The River Hawks are back in conference play this weekend with a three-game series against first-place Binghamton.
