River Hawks comeback falls short against Vermont, 12-11

LOWELL, Mass. --
The UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team fell against Vermont, 12-11 in America East play on Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field Complex. 

The River Hawks drop to 2-10 overall (0-4 AE) with the loss, while the Catamounts improve to 5-6 overall (1-3 AE) with the victory.

UMass Lowell junior attackman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) scored the 11th goal with five seconds remaining to pull within one, but the River Hawks ran out of time. The River Hawks scored the last three goals in the contest, after being down 12-8 with 6:30 left. 

Sophomore midfielder Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) notched a team-high five points (3g,2a) with nine shots to pace the River Hawk offensive attack. Freshman attackman Isaac Bot (Calgary, Alta.), junior Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) and senior Nicholas Pino (North Andover, Mass.) each tallied two goals for UMass Lowell. Pino registered a career and game-high 10 shots, while also managed nine shots in the losing effort. 

UMass Lowell outshot the 'Cats, 27-22 for the game, including a 11-5 advantage in the fourth quarter. The River Hawks owned a 38-36 edge in ground balls, which included a 13-7 edge in the final frame. 

Sophomore goaltender Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) stopped 10 shots in the loss for the River Hawks, while Nick Washuta managed 16 saves in the win for the Catamounts. 

Vermont's Cam Milligan totaled a game-high six points (3g,3a). 

UMass Lowell returns to action on Tuesday, April 11th at Dartmouth College. Game time from Scully-Fahey Field is 7 p.m. from Hanover, N.H.
