LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell baseball team (20-17) suffered a late-inning loss as the Harvard Crimson (17-21) scored four runs in the ninth inning to hand the River Hawks a 4-3 loss on Thursday night at LeLacheur Park.

With the bases loaded and one out, Patrick Robinson doubled to tie the game at 3-3, and Jake Forte put the Crimson on top after scoring on a wild pitch.

UMass Lowell used eight pitchers in the ballgame, combining for 13 strikeouts led by Connor Metelski's (Wall Township, N.J.) four. Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) connected on three doubles, while Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) also recorded three hits.

The River Hawks were able to break the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, sparked by Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) reaching second on a bunt single with a throwing error. After a balk sent Maiola to third, Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) chopped a single over the third baseman's head for the 1-0 lead.

Olive picked up his second double of the day to keep the inning alive, and Nick Barry (Grafton, Mass.) doubled the advantage with a sacrifice fly to score Climo.

After Olive's third two-bagger of the evening, he crossed the plate on john Polichetti's (Atkinson, N.H.) sacrifice fly to center to push the UMass Lowell lead to 3-0. The sophomore's three doubles tied the all-time program mark and set the DI record for most doubles in a single game.

The hosts had two runners on in the bottom of the night, including second and third with two outs, but could not produce the walk-off win.

Robinson was the only Crimson batter with multiple hits, and Grant Stone struck out four River Hawks over two innings to earn the victory.

UMass Lowell jumps back into America East play with a home series against the Hartford Hawks this weekend. The three-game set gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
