LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team fell to Stony Brook, 12-11 in overtime on Senior Night at Cushing Field Complex in the America East finale.
The River Hawks drop to 3-12 overall (1-5 AE), while the Seawolves improve to 7-6 overall (3-2 AE).
UMass Lowell scored three straight goals at the end of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead on goals by
Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.),
Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) and
Daniel Cozzi (Reading, Mass.). Â
Junior midfielder
Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) added a goal at 10:45 of the second quarter for his 10
th marker of the season for the River Hawks.
Stony Brook held a 7-4 lead at halftime.
Junior attackman
Matt Balter (Albany, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the second half with a pretty behind the back tally.
Senior midfielder
Nicholas Pino (North Andover, Mass.) added his 8th goal of the season in the third quarter to cut Stony Brook's lead to 9-6. Lane added his second goal of the night with 23 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the River Hawks' deficit to just two goals.
Daniel Cozzi and junior attackman
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) scored in the fourth to cut the Stony Brook lead to 11-10 with nine minutes left.
Phillips tied the game for the River Hawks at 11-11 with 7:04 left in the fourth quarter for his 23
rd tally of the season. The River Hawks scored the final three goals in regulation to force overtime.
Alex Corpolongo tallied five goals in the victory for Stony Brook. The Seawolves scores with 45.1 seconds left in overtime for the win.
Sophomore
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) made his 15
th start of the season for the River Hawks, tallying  nine saves in the losing effort. Michael Bollinger stopped eight shots in his third win of the season for the Seawolves.
The game marked the final collegiate contest for the four-member River Hawk senior class, which included
Chris Litchfield (Burlington, Mass.),
Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.),
Nicholas Pino and
Martin Winter (Lake Oswego, Ore.). The seniors were honored on the field alongside their parents in a pre-game ceremony.
