PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With three points on three goals, sophomore
Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) became the first River Hawk to eclipse 30 points in a single season at UMass Lowell. Despite her performance, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (6-8) was snubbed at Brown (5-8), 12-6, in their final non-conference tilt of the season, Wednesday evening.
Through 14 games so far this season, Dudley has amassed 15 goals and 16 assists on her way to a new program milestone.
Additionally, sophomore
Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) recorded her first career hat trick, in addition to tying a career-best three points in the tilt. Goalkeeper
Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Mass.) racked up nine saves in the outing, but it wasn't enough as the Bear's offensive proved too much to handle.
Behind two tallies from Zoe Verni, the Bears jumped out to a quick 3-0 edge in the opening five minutes.
With a tally from Dudley, the River Hawks got themselves on the board with 20:57 remaining. Sophomore
Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) picked up her career-best 12th helper on the play, helping cut the Bears advantage to 3-1.
Brown was able to string together its second three-goal run of the half as the team glided to a 6-1 edge. The team produced three different goal scorers during their run, including a pair of goals scored just two minutes apart.
Five minutes later, UMass Lowell netted their second marker of the half, thanks to Dudley who was able to break up Brown's scoring run with an unassisted tally for a 6-2 score. Ultimately, the Bears rounded out the first half scoring with a late goal in the final three minutes, holding a 7-2 lead at halftime.
Dudley broke open the second half scoring with her third marker of the game off an assist from classmate
Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) to cut the lead to 7-3. The sophomore picked up her third hat trick of the year en route to her record setting 30th point.
The two teams went on to trade goals in the following minutes, as Caster notched her first marker of the evening to slice the deficit in half, 8-4, with 13 minutes to play.
Brown responded strong, stringing together their longest scoring run of the tilt, posting four consecutive goals to grasp a 12-4.
Caster capped off the night with two scores in the final three minutes to complete the hat trick. The freshman first struck at 2:20 to make it 12-6, before tacking on her third of the contest for a 12-6 final.
UMass Lowell closes out its home schedule on Saturday, April 23 when the squad welcomes Vermont in America East action on Senior Day. The tilt is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
