NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The UMass Lowell (10-10) baseball team suffered a 5-0 setback to the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (11-10) on the road Thursday afternoon.
"It was just a combination of things; of not getting the key hits we needed and some walks there in the middle innings," commented Head Coach
Ken Harring. "We're a talented team and it's just one of those things where the game is full of cycles where a couple of weeks ago we were swinging the bats real well and now we're not. It's a long season and we'll be ready to go tomorrow against Maine, I can promise you that."
After loading the bases in the second inning, the Blue Devils scored three runs with two outs on a hit-by-pitch and a two-run single up the middle. The hosts added to their lead in the third with a RBI single to take a 4-0 advantage.
In the third, CCSU threatened for more with runners on second and third with no outs, but
Jeffrey Peterson III (Windham, N.H.) retired the next three batters.
Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) led the River Hawks with two hits and two steals on the afternoon.
UMass Lowell begins its second America East series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Maine, beginning at 2 p.m. The series was scheduled to take place at LeLacheur Park, but was moved due to the weather expected in the area.
