For the second consecutive game,
John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) drove in three runs and the pair of
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) and
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) both had two RBI.
Â
The River Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Tigers had a turn at the plate, taking advantage of a
Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) leadoff double on the first pitch of the game. The sophomore came across the plate following an
Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) single and
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) fielder's choice.
Â
After an error by the Towson defense,
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) scored Passatempo on a grounder to second to put up the second run. The next batter,
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.), doubled to right bringing Young across the plate, and
John Polichetti (Atkinson, N.H.) capped the frame off with a single to bring home Olive.
Â
The Tigers came back in the bottom of the second with six runs, sparked by a three-run double by Sanford to give Towson its first lead at 5-4. A RBI single pushed the advantage to 6-4, but the Tigers could not pull away.
Â
UMass Lowell responded in the third as Passatempo led off the frame with a double, and scored on an Olive RBI double to left after Maiola singled. Polichetti knotted up the game at 6-6 with a sacrifice fly and his second RBI of the contest.
Â
The guests added three runs in the fifth and retook the lead after two batters, as Maiola tripled to score Young, who led off the inning with a single. Maiola came across to score on a Polichetti fielder's choice, the freshman's sixth RBI in the last two games.
Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) singled to send Polichetti home to give the River Hawks a 9-6 buffer.
Â
Marchena singled home
Michael Young (Chester, N.j.) to push the lead to 10-7 in the top of the seventh, sandwiched around a pair of Towson runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Â
Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up his first win on 2017, only allowing one run in 4.1 innings of relief.
Â
