RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- Freshman attackmanÂ
Isaac Bot (Calgary, Alta.) scored a career-high four goals to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 13-6 victory at Manhattan on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Gaelic Park.
The River Hawks improve to 2-4 overall with the win, while Manhattan drops to a 2-5 mark on the season.Â
"Our defense made quality stops today and gave our offense more opportunities," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "The last two games we've been in the lead late and haven't gotten the ball to our offense. Coach Kelleher has done a great job with the Manhattan program and it was a great battle. We moved
Isaac Bot from defensive midfield to attack and he did a terrific job today, along with Lardieri who had another outstanding performance."
UMass Lowell opened the game scoring five straight goals, which included two by Bot, to go along with goals from
Martin Winter (Lake Oswego, Ore.),
Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.) and
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.). The River Hawks owned a 9-5 lead at halftime after goals by Bot, Lane,
Keenan Koswin (Winnipeg, Man.) and
Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.). Manhattan then scored the final three goals of the first half.Â
The River Hawks outscored the Jaspers, 4-1 in the second half on goals by
Brandon Luitwieler (Calgary, Alta.),
Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.), Bot and Tyrrell. Tyrell finished the day with three points (2g,1a) and Koswin also registered a three-point (1g,2a) outing with a game-high seven shots. Lane recorded two goals in the win for the River Hawks.Â
UMass Lowell outshot Manhattan, 47-30 for the game, which included a 12-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.Â
Sophomore goaltender
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) made nine saves, while his counterpart Michael Zingaro stopped 18 shots in the losing effort.
Freshman faceoff midfielder
Brett Dattilo (Derry, N.H.) went 12-of-23 on faceoffs with a game-high nine groundballs against the Jaspers.
