AMHERST, Mass. --Â The UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team fell at Massachusetts, 10-8 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Garber Field.
The River Hawks dropped their record to 2-5 overall, while the Minutemen improved to 2-4 overall on the season.
The Minutemen opened the scoring in the game, but UMass Lowell scored the next three goals in the game with less than three minutes left in the first quarter.
Austin Lane (Aurora, Ont.),
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alta.) and
Brandon Luitwieler (Calgary, Alta.) all scored for the River Hawks to give them a 3-1 lead.Â
UMass Lowell owned a 6-4 lead at halftime on two goals by
Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) and another by Tyrrell in the second quarter.Â
Keenan Koswin (Winnipeg, Man.) scored the two lone goals in the second half for the River Hawks.Â
Koswin, Phillips and Tyrrell all notched three points (2g,1a), while UMass' Tyler Bogart notched a game-high five points (4g,1a). Tyrrell also finished with a game-high five groundballs to pace the River Hawks.Â
UMass Lowell outshot UMass, 20-17 for the game and also had a 33-26 advantage in groundballs.Â
Sophomore goaltender
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) had seven saves in the losing effort, while D.J. Smith tallied 10 saves for the Minutemen in the victory.Â
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, March 18th for its America East opener against Binghamton. Game time from Cushing Field Complex is 1 p.m.Â
