DENTON, Texas – The UMass Lowell softball team (1-3) faced a pair of setbacks on day two of the University of North Texas Invitational.

The River Hawks first fell, 11-0, in five innings against Arkansas (3-0) of the Southeastern Conference before dropping a 6-0 decision against tournament host North Texas (1-2) of Conference USA in game two.

"I didn't feel we were as sharp today as we were yesterday," said Head Coach Danielle Henderson. "I think we learned a lot over the past two days to bring back and improve on."

Freshman Courtney Cashman and redshirt-freshman Casey Harding logged the lone hits of the day for the River Hawks, while Harding added one walk, as well. Senior pitcher Lauren Ramirez (Dracut, Mass.) totaled six strikeouts in game one, while sophomore Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) finished game two with four.

In game one, Arkansas pulled in front of the River Hawks in the top of the first with a RBI single by Ashley Diaz. UMass Lowell threatened to erase the difference in its first trip to the dish, but senior Tori Alcorn (Lowell, Mass.) was stranded on third. The Razorbacks then plated four unearned runs in the second with the help of a two-RBI triple by Nicole Schroeder to extend their buffer.

The visiting team in the contest took advantage of two more River Hawk miscues in the third to make the score 7-0 before adding four runs in the fourth, including a three-run home run by Madison Yannetti. The River Hawks were unable to cut into the difference in the fifth, as the Razorbacks sealed the 11-0 decision.

In the final game of the weekend against North Texas, the Mean Green jumped in front, 1-0 on Lacy Gregory's RBI single to left in the bottom of the first. The teams were scoreless in the second, but North Texas rallied for four more runs in the third on three hits, two of which were RBI doubles.

Cashman registered the River Hawks' first hit of the outing in the top of the fourth, although she would be stranded there. Both sides went three up and three down in the fifth before a solo home run by Nicole Ochotnicki in the home half of the sixth made it 6-0 in favor of the Mean Green.

The River Hawks will have a weekend off before heading back out on the road to take part in the 2017 Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn on February 24-25.
