DURHAM, N.H. – The No. 5 UMass Lowell Hockey team fell at New Hampshire, 3-1 in Hockey East play on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center.
The River Hawks drop to 0-2-0 on the year, while New Hampshire improves to 2-0-0 on the young season.
New Hampshire scored two second-period goals by Liam Blackburn (1:32) and Anthony Wyse (9:22), which came via the power play to give the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage.
Blackburn added his second goal of the game for UNH to make it a 3-1 game with 13:51 left in the third stanza.
Sophomore forward
Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) got the River Hawks on the board in the first period with 5:52 left on his 10
th career tally.
Sophomore
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) stopped 21 shots in the loss, which included nine saves in the first period. Danny Tirone stopped 32 shots for the Wildcats in the win with 15 saves in the final frame.
Junior forward
Nick Master (Broomall, Pa.) tallied a team-high eight faceoff wins for the River Hawks.
The River Hawks outshot UNH, 33-24 for the game, which included a 15-7 edge in the opening period. UMass Lowell finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while UNH went 1-for-4.
Freshman defenseman
Anthony Baxter (Oakville, Ont.) finished the night with a game-high four shots on goal in his second career game for the River Hawks.
