River Hawks Celebrate Team IMPACT Day with 9-2 Win vs. St. Louis

LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman Anouk Lalande (Brussels, Belgium) recorded four goals and nine total points to lead the UMass Lowell field hockey team (3-3) to a 9-2 win on Team IMPACT Day against Saint Louis (1-6) on Sunday afternoon.

"We set some goals prior to the game and we achieved them all," said Head Coach Shannon Hlebichuk. "One was to outwork Saint Louis the entire 70 minutes. We've been struggling with that a bit, but we achieved that goal today, so that probably felt the best. That was the best 70 minutes we've played all season long."

With the performance, the River Hawks set two Division I program records, marking the most goals in a game and the largest margin of victory for the team since a 2012 contest against Franklin Pierce (9-1). Individually, Lalande's nine-point showing ranks tied for second all-time on the school's single-game record list.

Junior Christa Doiron (Worcester, Mass.) added a pair of goals to tie a career high, while sophomore Carleen O'Connell (Madison, N.J.), who notched her first career goal, was among three players to tally one goal each. Goalkeepers Kelsey Federico (Windham, N.H.) and Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) split time in the cage to help seal the win.

The River Hawks pressured early with four shots on goal before Lalande finished a pair of corner opportunities to give her squad a 2-0 edge. The rookie first put UMass Lowell on the board when she collected a rebound off the opposing keeper's pads just seven minutes into play. Less than five minutes later, senior Eleonore Agneessens (Brussels, Belgium) dished a pass towards the left post that Lalande would redirect on target.

UMass Lowell continued to control the pace of play, as Lalande completed her hat trick in the 18th minute on a breakaway assisted by sophomore Torrie Huk (Milfrod, Del.). Junior Katie Luchino (Freehold, N.J.) joined the action in the 24th minute with goal of her own off of a hard shot from the left side of the circle, and O'Connell put a great tip on a ball from senior Annie Villare (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 34th, making the score 5-0 in favor of the home team at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Lalande finished off another attempt from the post to extend the River Hawks' lead to six. The Billikens' Maya Bentley converted on a direct corner in the 41st minute, but Moser went top shelf on her second penalty stroke chance this year just over a minute later, giving UMass Lowell a 7-1 advantage.

The visitors were able to score once more in the outing, although Doiron picked up back-to-back goals late in the contest to secure the 9-2 decision.

The squad celebrated its Team IMPACT match Isabelle Johnson during a special pregame ceremony. UMass Lowell improves to 2-0 all-time against Saint Louis in the sport of field hockey. The River Hawks return to action on Friday, September 23 when they welcome Hofstra to Wicked Blue Field for a 7 p.m. tilt.
