Bancroft Interview
Hamden, Conn. – The UMass Lowell Women's Soccer Team was blanked, 3-0, at Quinnipiac, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, UMass Lowell falls to 0-1-1 on the season, while Quinnipiac improves to 2-0-0.
Â
"In terms of possession and shots, we had the ball eight more minutes than Quinnipiac, outshot them 16-12 and did the right things to win the game," said Head Coach
Joel Bancroft. "Consistently we were just second to the ball and got caught up in their style of play. Credit to them for the victory."
Â
Quinnipiac first struck in the 31st minute, when forward Nadya Gill made the most of her one-on-one opportunity against sophomore goalkeeper
Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.), to give the squad a 1-0 advantage. After creating space between the defender and herself, Gill took a chip shot that cleared the back line, ultimately finding the back of the net.
Â
In the remaining minutes of the first half, sophomores
Jaymee Luke (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Lauren Aldrich (Southampton, Mass.) each placed a shot on goal, headlining the squad's best chances at erasing the deficit. Despite an aggressive effort, the home team held strong, keeping a lead they would fail to relinquish.
Â
The Bobcats would tack on two insurance goals in the later half, en route to a 3-0 triumph. Forward Sarah Pandolfi and midfielder Madison Borowiec each tallied a goal apiece in the contest.
Â
Aldrich and freshman
Courtney Coleman (Antioch, Ill.) paced all River Hawks with two shots on goal, while Schneider made two saves in the contest. Freshman
Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) posted her first career save in the outing.
Â
Tuesday's match marked the second ever meeting between the two squads, as the all-time series is now knotted 1-1, after the Bobcats victory. UMass Lowell is back in action on Friday, August 26, as the team treks to Stetson for a 7 p.m. quarrel.
