DELAND, Fla. –
The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (0-1-2) battled to a 2-2 stalemate at Stetson (0-1-2), wrapping up the squad's three-game road stint.

"I thought we faced almost all we could possibly face in this match and leading up to it," said Head Coach Joel Bancroft. "Injuries created opportunities for others to step up. Stetson asked alot of questions of us and we had to go forward by solving those questions in the game and changing our tactics. Once we grabbed the 2-1 lead, we created a wonderful opportunity to extend it to 3-1, but alas couldn't capitalize. We worked extremely hard and this is another positive step for these ladies. I'm proud of our desire and commitment to get points out of this road trip."

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) picked up a career-high seven saves in her first career start in net.

Stetson took the early lead, 1-0, in the 18th minute, after maintaining heavy possession for most of the first half. Forward Sarah Collins netted the first goal of the contest, lacing a ball high over the hands of Huff and into the back of the net.

The River Hawks were outshot 7-0 leading up to the first Hatter goal, but the squad seemed to switch gears after Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) blasted UMass Lowell's first shot of the game, nearly missing the top of the crossbar.

The visitors made their presence known in the 35th minute, when forward Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) booted a free kick from 18 yards out to net the equalizer. Morrier sent a kick from the right corner of the box directly to the net, tipping off the goalkeepers' hands and across the goal line.

Vieira continued to be the spark for the River Hawks offense, as her goal in the 53rd minute gave the team its first lead of the night, 2-1. Forward Maddie Cheney (Bow, N.H.) picked up her first career assist on the play after dumping a ball to Vieira who capitalized on breakaway opportunity for her first goal of the season.

Nearly eight minutes after UMass Lowell claimed the lead, their opponents did their part to even the competition, 2-2, on a penalty kick. Drawing the penalty was forward Hailey Williams, whose goal would eventually go on to be the last goal of the contest.

The game would play out to see 50 minutes of scoreless action, which featured two overtime periods and 14 shots between the two counterparts.

The River Hawks most dominant period of play was seen in the first 10 minutes of extra time. The squad outshot the host team, 3-1, after being outshot 24-10 in 110 minutes of action.

Friday's contest marked the first ever meeting between the two teams in the sport of women's soccer, as the all-time series now sits knotted 0-0-1. The River Hawks are back in action on Thursday, September 1 in the team's home opener. UMass Lowell will host Bryant in a 7 p.m. tilt, as the program will also host its attendance record game.
