River Hawks Entertain A Pair of In-State Foes

LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell baseball team host a pair of non-conference in-state games on Tuesday and Wednesday, before wrapping up its America East slate at Hartford over the weekend. 

River Hawk Rewind
UMass Lowell suffered a sweep at the hands of the UMBC Retrievers over the weekend, falling 7-3, 2-1 and 7-6 in 10 innings. The River Hawks rallied from down 6-0 to tie the game in the ninth in Sunday's finale. Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) and Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) both homered in the series, and Mark Tumosa (Willington, Conn.) had three RBI. In the finale, Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) recorded a career-high 10 assists, falling one short of tying the school record. 

Leading the Flock
Consolmagno leads the team with a .294 average, 45 hits, five triples and 25 runs, while he sits in second with 22 RBI. In the middle of the order, Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) powers the offense with 10 homers and 37 RBI, to lead the conference in both categories. Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) leads the team with five doubles and has driven in 13 RBI. Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) has stolen 15 bases, trailed by Consolmagno's and Ben Prada's (Laurel, Md.) 10 as the team leads the America East with 61 steals. On the mound, Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has four wins, while Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) has three wins to his name and leads the staff with 53 strikeouts. Brendan Long (Naples, Fla.) leads the team and conference with eight saves, boasting a 2.16 ERA. UMass Lowell is batting .229 as a team, and the staff paces the conference with a 3.66 ERA.

Scouting Northeastern
The Huskies (25-21, 9-8 CAA) have won two straight and five of their last eight, including a 4-3 win against Hartford on May 3. Cam Walsh sits atop the lineup with a .330 average, while Kelly Keith has a team-high 49 hits. Pat Madigan powers the team with five homers and 24 RBI, and Charlie McConnell has 22 stolen bases in 24 attempts. On the rubber Aaron Civale is 6-3 with a 2.05 ERA, and has recorded 97 strikeouts in 92.1 innings. As a unit, Northeastern has a .241 batting average and a team ERA of 3.63.

Scouting Massachusetts
The Minutemen (14-22, 7-10 Atlantic 10) head to UConn before taking on the River Hawks on Wednesday afternoon. Mike Hart enters the week with a .328 batting average, while John Jennings has eight home runs and 27 RBI. The duo, along with Dylan Morris, have each hit seven doubles to account for 21 of 46 of the team's two baggers. Evan Mackintosh posts a 2.33 ERA, while Brandon Walsh and Justin Lasko have three wins. Massachusetts is batting at a .261 clip, and posts a ERA of 4.74.

Series History
The River Hawks have a 4-1 series lead with Northeastern, following an 11-9 win in 2015. This will be the first-ever meeting between the sister schools in baseball.
