LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-12, 0-4 AE) was downed by No. 9 Stony Brook (9-3, 3-0 AE), 23-2, Saturday afternoon in America East action.

Carissa Medeiros. "Stony Brook is the number nine team in the country and they are an excellent team with an excellent coach. They are a legitimate top Divison I team and we knew coming into this game that we were going to be playing some of the best players in the country."
Behind three consecutive goals in the first 3:09 of play, and eight first half goals by Courtney Murphy, the Seawolves stormed into halftime carrying an 18-0 lead.
Sophomore attacker
Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman attacker
Kristina Keith (Exeter, N.H.) put the River Hawks on the board in the second half, after netting back-to-back goals on free positions shots.
With the goal, Sokol extender her point streak to six games, which began March 18 against Stetson when she posted three goals and two assists for five points.
Murphy notched a game-high 10 points, finishing with nine goals and one assist on the day.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) picked up seven saves in the outing, while freshman attacker
Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) caused a team-high three turnovers in addition to picking up two ground balls.
Saturday's contest marks just the second meeting between the two teams in the sport of women's lacrosse, as No. 9 Stony Brook holds the 2-0 advantage. UMass Lowell is back in action on Tuesday, April 12 when the squad entertains Brown in a 6 p.m. nightcap.
