River Hawks Bested By AE Foe Binghamton, 16-5

Story Links

Vestal, N.Y.-The River Hawks fell 16-5 to Binghamton on Saturday to start off their two game road trip.

The River Hawks fall to 2-10 with the loss, winless in four conference games. The game is the third win of the year for the Bearcats, who hold a 2-1 record in the America East.

Zach Scaduto was the hot hand early for the Bearcats, scoring twice in the first seven minutes of the game. The River Hawks then got a defensive stop, and after having the first couple of shots saved or go wide, freshman Blaine McMahon (New Milford, Conn.) picked up a rebound and scored his eight goal of the year, making it 2-1. Binghamton would get another goal before the quarter ended, making it a 3-1 game at the first intermission. All in all, the River Hawks defense did a great job of damage control in the first quarter, only allowing the Bearcats to three goals on 16 shots.

Binghamton started the scoring in the second, with Ben Kocis picking up his first goal and second point of the day. Midway through the quarter, the River Hawks picked up a quick pair of goals from sophomores Keenan Koswin (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alberta), to cut the Binghamton lead in half at 6-3. The Bearcats stormed right back though, answering with four goals of their own to push the lead to sisevenx; by a score of 10-3 at halftime.

The River Hawks scored first in the third, with Nicholas Pino (North Andover, Mass.) picking up his fifth goal of the year.  Binghamton would get two more goals before the end of the quarter making it 12-4.

The River Hawks got one fourth quarter goal from sophomore Jon Phillips (Delta, British Columbia) on a man up opportunity.  Binghamton would add four more in the final frame, including Thomas McAndrew's second goal of the game.

The Bearcats kept the UMass Lowell goaltending busy, getting off 59 shots. Starter Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) made 8 saves, while junior Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.) stopped five shots in relief.

The River Hawks will be on the road next weekend when they visit 8th ranked Stony Brook. Faceoff is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, April 16. Coverage of that one can be found on America East TV.
