River Hawks Prepare For a Trio of Games this Week

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team is set for a trio of games this week, as the squad will square off against a pair of America East foes, before taking on a member of the Ivy league. The River Hawks first hit the road for a 3 p.m. clash with Vermont on April 6, before returning home to host No. 9 Stony Book on April 9 at 12 p.m. and Brown on April 12 in a 6 p.m. night cap.
 
Looking at UMass Lowell
The River Hawks (1-10, 0-2 AE) are looking to snap a seven-game skid as they head into a heavy week of America East action. UMass Lowell was recently clipped, 11-9, at Bryant on March 30, prior to a 16-5 defeat against UMBC in the squads conference home opener.  
 
Leading the Flock
Freshman attacker Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) is pacing the squad with 18 points, while being tied with sophomore attacker Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) for a team-high six assists. The River Hawks top goal scorer is freshman midfielder Kristina Keith (Exeter, N.H.), who has notched 13 goals in 11 games, in addition to recording four multi-point games. Freshman midfielder Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) headlines the squad with five free position goals and 31 draw controls. Between the pipes, sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) has picked up 118 saves, a 12.88 goals against average and a .472 save percentage, including a team-high 52 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
 
Scouting Vermont
Vermont, who owns a 4-7 overall record and a 0-2 mark in league play, is coming off a pair of split decisions from last week's contests. The Catamounts walked away with an 11-5 victory against Manhattan on March 30, before hitting a 19-8 set back against top ranked America East opponent Stony Brook on April 2. Vanessa VanderZaim ranks first on the team with 24 goals, 46 shots, 25 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers and 37 draw controls. Alex Bernier is posting a team-high 39 points and 23 assists. Goalkeeper Maddy Kuras owns a 3-5 record in the net, while recording a 13.36 goals against average and a .363 save percentage.
 
Scouting Stony Brook
Stony Brook will entertain UMBC for a midweek conference battle before heading to Wicked Blue Field for Saturday's contest. The defending America East Champions currently own a 7-3 overall record, including a 1-0 mark in conference play. Through 10 games so far this season, Courtney Murphy is notching team highs in goals (41) and points (46), while Kylie Ohlmiller leads the squad with 19 assists. In net, Anna Tesoriero leads the conference with a 7.52 goals against average, in addition to a .482 save percentage.
 
Scouting Brown
Brown (4-6, 0-3 Ivy) will take a trip to Harvard this Saturday for a conference battle before trekking to Lowell for Tuesday's nightcap. Pacing the squad is Lauren Toy, who leads the team with 18 goals and seven assists for 25 points, while Marissa Hudgins and Ali Kim are knotted for a team-high 14 ground balls. Between the pipes, Victoria Holland owns all ten decisions in the net, while posting a 8.67 goals against average and a .472 save percentage.
 
On the National Stage
As of April 5, goalkeeper Courtney Barrett ranks first in the nation in ground balls per game, averaging 4.73 and fifth with 10.73 saves per game.
 
Honors and Awards
Freshman attacker Noelle Lambert garnered her first America East Rookie of the Week honor on Feb. 29 after netting nine points (5g, 4a) in a two game span for the River Hawks. Freshman midfielder Kristina Keith was tabbed America East Rookie of the Week on March 7, after posting four goals and one assist in the squad's first program win, while tying a program-high five points in a single contest.
