LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off a 3-1 week, the UMass Lowell (13-14, 3-6 AE) baseball team will head out on the road for four games, playing Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 12 and play America East foe Stony Brook over the weekend.
River Hawk Recap
The River Hawks battled their way to three come from behind victories, including back-to-back walk-offs to take the series against Binghamton, 2-1. In mid-week action, UMass Lowell overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 to defeat Army West Point 7-5.
Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and one run scored.
Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) drove in two runs, while
Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) and
Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) each had two hits.
Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded his fourth win, and
Brendan Long (Naples, Fla.) earned his sixth save.Â
After getting blanked, 5-0, in the first game against Binghamton,
Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) singled up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to score
Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) for the 2-1 win. Sharpe drove in both runs, and
Nick Rand (Hyde Park, N.Y.) earned his first career win with a career-high five strikeouts in two innings of relief. In the series finale, the hosts trailed 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth and cut the deficit in half capped by a two-RBI single from Passatempo. Behind five hits in the sixth inning, the River Hawks tacked on three more runs to knot up the score at 6-6, the game-tying knock came from Marchena. The freshman again tied the game at 7-7 in the eighth with a single, before
Michael Young (Chester, N.J.) ended the game on a sacrifice fly in the ninth.Â
Leading the Flock
Consolmagno leads the team with a .295 average and 28 hits, while he sits in second with 12 RBI. In the middle of the order, Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) powers the offense with six homers and 24 RBI.Â
Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) leads the team with five doubles and has driven in 10 RBI.
Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) has stolen 13 bases, trailed by Consolmagno's nine as the team is second in the league with 44 steals. On the mound,
Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has four wins, and has a 2.18 ERA.
Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) has three wins to his name and leads the staff with a 2.11 ERA with 34 strikeouts.
Brendan Long (Naples, Fla.) leads the team and conference with six saves. UMass Lowell is batting .230 as a team, and posts a 3.21 ERA as a staff.
Scouting Dartmouth
The Big Green (9-17, 3-3 Ivy) have won four of their last five games, including a two-game sweep over Columbia on April 10. Matt Feinstein is batting .328 to pace the offense, while Michael Ketchmark has 26 hits, four home runs and 14 RBI. Both Feinstein and Ketchmark have crossed the plate 10 times, to combine for 20 of Dartmouth's 79 runs. On the mound, Patrick Peterson is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA. Duncan Robinson leads the staff with three wins and 44 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. As a unit, Dartmouth is batting .238 and has a staff ERA of 5.31.
Scouting Stony Brook
The Seawolves (14-13, 5-2 AE) took the series against Hartford over the weekend with 9-0 and 2-0 wins, and battle LIU Brooklyn on April 13 before hosting the River Hawks. Jack Parenty carries a .344 average with 31 hits and leads the team with 21 RBI. Andruw Gazzola has connected on a team-high 35 hits with a .337 average. Johnny Caputo has Stony Brook's power with three home runs, and has driven in 20 RBI. On the rubber, Chad Lee has a 4-2 record and a 1.16 ERA. Bret Clarke has four wins with six starts. As a team, the Seawolves a posting a .279 average and 4.55 ERA.
