LOWELL, Mass. – Following a split at the Mississippi State tournament, the UMass Lowell baseball team heads to Delaware for a weather-shortened Bob Hannah Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware.

The original schedule had the River Hawks face-off against Delaware State on March 4, but with impending snow the day's action was cancelled. The remaining slate on Saturday and Sunday will go on as expected.

Looking at the River Hawks
Freshman Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) led UMass Lowell in Mississippi with three home runs and 11 RBI in the four games. The River Hawks' season opened with two wins against Nicholls State (11-2, 9-6), sandwiched between a pair of 4-2 setbacks to No. 17 Mississippi State. Passatempo connected on his first career homer, a three-run blast in the opener against the Colonels, en route to the 11-2 victory. His second long ball came a few hours later against the Bulldogs. In the tourney finale, the freshman sent his first career grand slam over the fence to lead UMass Lowell in the 9-6 win. Sophomore Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) pitched seven innings of one run ball, striking out three, in the season opener.

Leading the Flock
Passatempo ranks first among the team batting .471 with his eight hits, three homers and 11 RBI. He has also collected 17 total bases with a 1.000 slugging percentage. Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) is batting .400 and is tied at the top with two stolen bases, along with Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) and Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) On the rubber, Ryan and Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) lead the staff with seven and five one-third innings, respectively. Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) has not allowed a run in over two innings, while Ryan and Pomeroy have ERAs at 1.29 and 1.69. Steve Xirinachs (San Diego, Calif.)  has struck out five batters in his five innings.

Scouting Delaware State
The Hornets (0-9) are still winless this season following their 20-4 loss at Navy on March 2. Sam Barber leads the squad at the plate with a .278 average (5-18), while teammate Jaylen Zielecki has eight hits. Chris Panzarella and Cameron Onderko have driven in three runs each, Panzarella also has DSU's solo homerun. Both Garett Coverdale and Hunter McVey have 5.19 ERAs in over eight innings. Cole Davis has recorded 12 strike outs in 10 1/3 innings to pace the staff.

Scouting Delaware
The Blue Hens are 4-3 following their 12-7 win against Maryland on March 1, snapping their two-game skid. At the plate, Jordan Glover is hitting at a .448 clip with 13 hits and nine RBI. Kevin Mohollen has connected on the squad's only home run and triple (2), has a team-high 22 total bases. Early on Ron Marinaccio is the ace of the staff, winning both of his starts with a 1.64 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Colman Vila and Nick Spadafino have picked up the other wins for Delaware.

Series History
This weekend marks the first ever meetings between the River Hawks and the two teams.
