PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Matt Balter (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) picked up a career high 6 points as the River Hawks fell to Providence in a back and fourth game Tuesday afternoon 15-11.  
 
With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 2-7, while Providence improves to 5-3.
 
After going back and fourth for the first 10 minutes, Providence picked up the first goal of the game with 5:15 to go in the first quarter.  Providence scored again with one minute left to go, giving them a 2-0 lead at the end of quarter one.
 
The River Hawks got the scoring going in the second quarter just a minute in, when 
Keenan Koswin (Winniped, Manitoba) found Matt Balter open in front of the net, the sophomore duo cutting the deficit down to just 1. Providence would score two more to make it 5-1 before UMass Lowell went on a 5-2 run to end the half, a stretch which included goals from Balter, Koswin, 
Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alberta), and 
Martin Winter (Lake Oswego, Ore.). Providence would add one more with 1:11 remaining in the half, tying the game at six for the break.
 
The River Hawks came out strong in the third quarter scoring the first two goals, with Balter finishing his hat trick with 8:42 to go in the quarter. Providence then rolled off six straight goals, pushing to a 12-8 lead, the biggest of the day for either team. The River Hawks got three goals in the final five minutes, including two more from Matt Balter, who finished with a career total of five scores.  It wasn't enough though as the Friars were able to match each one to finish off a 15-11 win.
 
Freshman goalie 
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) stopped 11 shots in 51 minutes in net for UMass Lowell. 
Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.) and Chris Litchfield (Burlington, Mass.) saw time as well, making three and one saves respectively.
 
The River Hawks return on Saturday with an America East matchup, they'll travel to Burlington to take on the Vermont Catamoutns at 1PM.
