River Hawks Wrap Up West Coast Swing Against San Francisco

LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell baseball team takes on the San Francisco Dons in the squad's finale on the West Coast. Due to construction, the game will be played at Cal Berkeley's Evans Diamond.

River Hawk Recap
The River Hawks (6-4) took two out of three from Santa Clara last weekend. Behind Andrew Ryan's (Rochester, Mass.) eight inning shutout effort, UMass Lowell defeated the Broncos 3-0 in game one. The sophomore stuck out eight and spread around four hits, he has not given up a run in 21 1/3 innings. Santa Clara won game two 7-1, before the River Hawks escaped with a 4-3 victory in what turned out to be the final game. Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) led the way going 5-for-10 with four walks, while Nick Kuzia (Seymour, Conn.) notched his first win of the season in game three, going six innings and only allowing one earned run.

Leading the Flock
Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) leads the squad with a .316 average and 12 hits, and has a six-game hitting streak. Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) powers the offensewith five homers and 13 RBI, followed by Sharpe's six runs batted in. Three River Hawks have recorded at least five stolen bases, led by Ian Strom's (Hopedale, Mass.) seven in seven attempts. Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) and Consolmagno have five each as the team ranks second in the league with 23 steals. On the mound, Ryan leads the staff with a 3-0 record with a 0.41 ERA, and 21 strikeouts to lead the conference in all three categories. Nick Kuzia (Seymour, Conn.), Brendan Shea (Belmont, Mass.) and Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) have picked up the other wins for the club. 

Scouting San Francisco
The Dons (3-14) defeated No. 4 Oregon State, 5-0, on March 13 to snap their six-game skid which included two losses to the Beavers. Riley Helland leads the squad with a .364 average, while Blake Valley has 20 hits and 14 RB with five stolen bases. Nico Giarratano has scored 10 runs, recorded 17 hits and 11 RBI. Three players have hit one home run each for San Francisco. On the mound, Frank Waliczek has a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings, while Frank Kannenberg is 1-1 with 14 Ks in 21 1/3 innings.

Series History
This weekend series will mark the first meetings for the two programs.
