LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team will host a pair of contests this week, welcoming Siena on Wednesday, March 2 at 3 p.m. and Sacred Heart on Sunday, March 6 at 1 p.m.
Looking at the River HawksUMass Lowell (0-3, 0-0 AE) enters this week looking for their first win of the year, after dropping a pair of decisions last week. Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) is pacing the squad in points (9), goals (5) and assists (4), after putting up a four-goal performance at Manhattan to notch the team's first hat trick of the season. Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) owns the 0-3 record, while recording 30 saves and a 12.98 goals against average.
Scouting SienaFor the first time since 2010, Siena owns a 2-0 record, 0-0 MAAC, to being its season. The Saints opened up 2016 with a commanding, 17-7 victory at Mercer on Feb. 23, before taking down Kennesaw, 12-7, on the road on Feb. 25. Senior Sarah Croutier is leading the squad with 10 points, while freshman Lynnzee Miller trails closely behind with nine points, in addition to a team-best nine goals and eight ground balls. Between the pipes, freshman goalkeeper Samantha Horton has earned both decisions this season, while tallying 17 saves and a 7.00 goals against average.
Scouting Scared HeartScared Heart enters Sunday's contest 1-2 over all after splitting a pair of decisions last week. The Pioneers grabbed their first win of the season with a 14-10 road victory against Holy Cross on Feb. 20, before falling at Iona, 13-10, on Feb. 25. Sacred Heart will host Fairfield in the squad's home opener on March 2, prior to visiting the River Hawks. Junior Caitlin Delaney has notched a team-best 13 points, 10 goals and eight caused turnovers on the year, while sophomore goalkeeper Paige Hammick (1-2) bosts a 12.67 goals against average with 18 saves.
Series HistoryUMass Lowell and Siena will be meeting for the second time in program history, after the Saints took down the River Hawks, 18-1, last season to grab a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. Sunday's contest will also be the second match up between the River Hawks and the Pioneers, as Scared Heart holds the, 1-0, advantage in the all-time series, edging UMass Lowell, 7-6, in 2015.
