LOWELL, MASS. -- The UMass Lowell River Hawks Athletic Department is pleased to announce a partnership with the First Congregational Church of Pelham to collect new socks and underwear prior to the River Hawks hockey game against the University of New Hampshire Saturday, February 6 at the Tsongas Center.
Fans are asked to make a donation of new socks and/or underwear for distribution throughout the region. The winter is a critical time for donations and this is another opportunity for River Hawks fans to give back.
"We are so excited to be a part of this project," the Rev. Bill Ferguson of First Congregational Church said. "The ability to have access to clean underwear and socks goes a long way to provide a touch of dignity to so many people in need."Â
River Hawk fans have come through time and time again this hockey season, donating hundreds of pounds of food for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank and Lowell Transitional Living Center, while raising money for other causes including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Team IMPACT and more.
"The generosity of River Hawk fans continues to amaze," Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions
Jon Boswell said. "Food, clothes or financial donations, it has not mattered to the fans. They have answered the call each and every game they have attended."
The No. 8 River Hawks continue an exciting Hockey East weekend Saturday night when they host UNH. Puck drop is set for 7pm.Â
