LOWELL, Mass. – Junior defenseman Dylan Zink (Madison, Wis.) netted his first hat trick of his career, as the No. 11 UMass Lowell Hockey Team (18-7-5, 11-5-4 HEA) defeated No. 7 Boston University (17-9-4, 10-6-3 HEA), 6-3, Saturday night, in front of 6,103 fans at the Tsongas Center in Hockey East action.
 
"It was obviously a very good win," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "I thought there were a lot of guys contributing tonight. Whether it be scoring, shot blocks, or taking away time and space, we were just better tonight."
 
Zink's hat trick was the first by an UMass Lowell defenseman since Dave Barozzino in 1996, and second of the season for the River Hawks' squad.
 
Zink opened up the scoring 11:26 into the opening frame after gathering a pass from senior forward A.J. White (Dearborn, Mich.) and freshman forward Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) to tally his seventh goal of the season. The River Hawks did not lead for long though, as forward Bobo Carpenter scored the equalizer for the Terriers, knotting it, 1-1, just 90 seconds later.
 
With two minutes remaining in the first, Zink struck for the second time in the contest, helping the home team reclaim the lead once again. Junior defenseman Michael Kapla (Eau Claire, Wis.) and freshman forward Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) were credited with the assists as UMass Lowell carried a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.
 
Dylan Zink continued to be the factor for the River Hawks as he notched his third goal of the night at 3:13 in the second period.
 
The home team continued to roll, later extending their lead, 5-1, thanks to a pair of goals from senior forward Adam Chapie (Oxford, Mich.), who posted both goals in a nine second span. Chapie's two goals was the second fastest two-goal span by a single player since 1968, when Gary Bishop tabbed two goals in eight seconds.
 
Boston University rounded out the second period with a goal by forward Oskar Andren, but the River Hawks still had the upper hand, carrying a strong 5-2 advantage into the final period.
 
White topped off the scoring for UMass Lowell as he batted in a loose rebound to give the squad their sixth goal of the night, off an initial shot by Dmowski. The Terriers posted one last goal before time expired, but ultimately came up short in the, 6-3, road loss.
 
Senior goaltender Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) held strong between the pipes, recording 35 saves in the outing, as the senior tabbed his 17th win of the 2015-2016 season.
 
Saturday's contest marked the 108th meeting between the River Hawks and the Terriers, as Boston University continues to hold a strong 72-26-6 lead in the all-time series. UMass Lowell is back in action on Tuesday, February 16, when the squad travels to American International College for a 7 p.m. tilt.
