No. 13 River Hawks Entertain Hartford on Senior Night

LOWELL, Mass. – After moving in sole possession of first place in the America East, the No. 13 River Hawks host the Hartford Hawks on Senior Night for chance to clinch the regular season title.

The program's four seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony, beginning at approx. 6:52 p.m.

River Hawk Rewind
Wuilito Fernandes (Praia, Cape Verde) provided the heroics in the win against UAlbany on October 29, with his game-winning goal in the 23rd minute. Dario Jovanovski (Zagreb, Croatia) sent a cross into the box where Fernandes juggled around a defender to create space and slid a shot into the right corner. Zach Rowell (Haverhill, Mass.) earned his first career shutout, having to make only one save. The River Hawks improved to 12-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the America East for 13 points, one more than second-place New Hampshire.
 
Leading the Flock
Fernandes leads the squad with 10 goals and is tied with Ivan Abramovic (Zagreb, Croatia) with 25 points. Abramovic has nine tallies on the season and leads the team with seven assists, while Fernandes has chipped in a career-high five assists. The duo is tied for third in the conference in total points, with Fernandes sitting tied for second in goals. Abramovic and Dario Jovanovski are tied for second among the conference with seven assists. Carlos Ruiz (East Boston, Mass.) is third on the team with nine points (3g, 3a), Ivan Blaskic (Zagreb, Croatia) has one tally and two assists so far in his first season as a River Hawk. In net, junior Austin Kroll (Baltimore, Md.) has allowed eight goals on 118 shots, recording 37 saves and continues to lead the conference with a 0.59 goals against average and .822 save percentage.

Dynamic Duo
Fernandes and Abramovic became the first pair of River Hawks with 20 or more points in a season since 2012. With Abramovic's next goal they would also become the first duo to have 10 goals in season since 2003. Fernandes became the sixth player in program to score 10 or more in a single season, and the first since 2012.
 
Scouting Hartford
The Hawks (7-8-3, 2-2-2) have won three of their last five games, but are coming off a 2-1 loss to New Hampshire on Oct. 29. Jeff Tyron leads the attack with six goals for 12 points, and Udi Cohen has dished out a team-high five assists. Between the pipes, Jimmy Slayton has made 15 starts in 16 appearances, and boasts seven shutouts with a 0.93 GAA and 0.795 save percentage
 
Series History
UMass Lowell is 0-7 against Hartford dating back to the Division II era. The Hawks shutout the River Hawks 2-0 in last year's finale.

Home Sweet Home
The River Hawks sit at 5-0-2 at Cushing Field this season and have posted a 14-7-3 home record since 2014.
 
Road Warriors
UMass Lowell has been of the best road teams in the country this season, posting a 7-1 mark in games away from Cushing Field. The seven wins is the most on the road since the 2012 team won six.

Election Season
The River Hawks moved up six spots following their 2-0 week to enter the week at a program-high No. 13, and sit in the number 17 spot in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll.. UMass Lowell has been ranked in the NSCAA Poll for seven straight weeks and has been the top-ranked team in the East for eight consecutive weeks. After spending three weeks at No. 9 in the RPI, the River Hawks moved up to No. 4.

Playing From Ahead
Before succumbing the first goal against Brown, UMass Lowell had only trailed for 1:47 this season, coming in the first game of the season at Northeastern. From Ben Waithe's (Plymouth, Mass.) game tying goal, the River Hawks went 452 consecutive minutes without trailing. 

Saving Space in the Records
Kroll now sits third all-time with 25 career wins and in fourth with 17 career blank sheets. With 1190:26 of total playing time this season, he has moved into sixth all-time with 4,400:28 minutes in a River Hawk uniform.

And That Was Talking Soccer
Abramovic's game-winning goal from Sept. 4 earned a spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 list at number 4. The tally appeared on Fox Soccer and took home the Top Drawer Soccer Goal of the Week.

Notables
Fernandes and Abramovic swept the conference awards, being named the Player and Rookie of the Week, resepctively (10.31) ... for the second time this season, Fernandes was named the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (10.31) ... Abramovic has posted three two-goal games this season and has registered multiple points in six contests .... Abramovic picked up his third Rookie of the Week award and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (10.10) ... Ruiz was named one of the 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award (10.7) ... Fernandes earned America East Player of the Week and College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors (9.12) ... Abramovic took consecutive America East Rookie of the Week awards (8.29-9.6) … with five wins this season, Figueroa has reached 51 wins during his coaching career at UMass Lowell.
