LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision against New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center in America East play. The set scores were 16-25, 16-25, 26-24 and 11-25.
With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 5-14 overall (0-4 AE), while the Wildcats up their season record to 11-8 and 4-0 in conference play. The set three win vs. UNH today was the first time UMass Lowell took a set from the three-time reigning America East squad in the Div. I era.
Freshman outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) once again paced the River Hawks' offense with a team-high nine kills to go along with a team-high 17 digs and two service aces.
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) each chipped in with seven kills apiece in the losing effort. Bell added five total blocks, while Shimon posted five digs on the defensive side.
Sophomore libero Lindsey Vivardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) recorded 17 digs in another impressive defensive effort.
UMass Lowell notched 16 kills and a .222 hitting percentage in its set three win, after registering just 16 kills in the other three frames combined. The River Hawks finished set three on two service aces from
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.), a Claybaugh kill and a service ace from
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.). Mendez finished the night with a match-high three service aces and 24 assists quarterbacking the River Hawk offense.
The River Hawks return to the court at home on Friday, October 14th against Stony Brook on Dig Pink Night. Match time from Costello Athletic Center is 7 p.m.
